Project Summary
Areas
Living room, dining room and hallway
Colour
Morrells Medium Oak
Finish
Bona Traffic HD Silk Matt
The condition
A heavily worn hardwax oil finish
Scratches and scuffs were visible throughout the three connected areas. The old hardwax oil needed to be removed fully so the pine could be prepared consistently for a new colour and protective lacquer system.
Colour choice
Freshly sanded pine does not have to stay pale
Once clean timber was exposed and suitable gaps were filled, Morrells Medium Oak stain gave the pine a warmer, deeper appearance. Stain can change the character of pine while allowing its grain and board variation to remain visible.
Restoration process
How The Floor Was Restored
Remove Failed Finish
The hardwax oil was sanded away to expose clean pine.
Prepare & Fill
The surface was refined and suitable gaps filled.
Add Colour
Morrells Medium Oak stain created the warmer tone requested.
Protect
Two coats of Bona Traffic HD Silk Matt completed the system.
The result
Warm pine with a more settled appearance
The Medium Oak treatment brought visual continuity to the connected rooms and shows how original pine can move beyond a pale natural finish when a warmer interior is preferred.
